.“Hair of the Dog” by Nazareth: Pure head-banging cowbell euphoria! Simple enough for even the most rhythmically challenged to rock out with authority. This song hits all the necessary cowbell notes and drives hard to the finish. Bob that head, folks! Here a great 1975 “live” version! https://youtu.be/0gdLXIM0_uQ

.“Don’t Fear the Reaper” by Blue Oyster Cult: This is it, baby! “Don’t Fear the Reaper” is the song that recaptured the imagination and revitalized the cowbell in the hearts of the American public. Consistent throughout, the bell constantly reminds us what the real star of this song is! https://youtu.be/8GAylAoRR2A

.” Honky-Tonk Woman “ by Rolling Stones: If cowbell songs had a cool older brother, it would be “Honky-Tonk Woman.” With a somewhat avant-garde thwack, the Stones show their varied talent for producing great rock, cowbell, or not. This is one of the best videos out there enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuW9Sk8znqQ

.” Low Rider” by WAR: Trade in that rice rocket, step back to a time when cowbell ruled the airwaves and speed bumps were the feared foes of your lowered El Camino! What a song! Pile seven of your largest friends into your two-door, blast this song, and experience the feeling for yourself. Olde but a goodie here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsrqKE1iqqo

.“King of Rock” by Run-D.M.C: Really, Run-D.M.C.? Kings of Rock? I’m not convinced about that claim, but: the Kings of Rock Cowbell? Hmm … I’ll think about it. Nonetheless, a bona fide powerhouse: take a seat or fall over, cowbell song! Enjoy this is the MTV version… https://youtu.be/qXzWlPL_TKw

6. “We’re an American Band” by Grand Funk Railroad: We’re an American Band – who makes a mean cowbell song! Agreed, boys! Dare I say it? I do! This song is cowbell-ariffic! Sing along now……. https://youtu.be/rwsgznR_T-g

.“Hey Ladies” by The Beastie Boys: This song makes it high on the list for one reason. COWBELL SOLO! Solos are a rarity and when you find one this good, the question must be asked. Why?!? Let loose your mad cowbell skills, musicians across the world! OK, this is a fun one! https://youtu.be/Naf5uJYGoiU

.“Mississippi Queen” by Mountain: After hearing this song, it becomes clear that the boys from Mountain love them some hot Cajun women and some pounding, hold-nothing-back, bang-’til-you-bleed cowbell. A fine example of a cowbell used in the classical sense! The Playlist has a great live version! Oh yea..  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEnF6EB-yMs

.“Play that Funky Music” by Wild Cherry: OK, Wild Cherry! I will play that funky music! I am a white boy and I keep a cowbell under my bed for protection and to play with some funky music when this song comes on. Giving white boys a reason to own cowbells since 1976. A very well dressed version here! https://youtu.be/B8-oFWAVu9I

.“Crosseyed and Painless” by Talking Heads: By far the most underappreciated cowbell song. Possibly the most fantastic use of cowbell in a song to date. If this song’s other main components measured up to the fantastic cowbell, we might be looking at the greatest song ever made. Still, as a cowbell song, THIS IS BRILLIANT! https://youtu.be/gyDb4szpWmc

.” Rock of Ages” by Def Leppard: Def Leppard’s Rick Allen proves you don’t need perfect anatomy to rock a cowbell. The one-armed Allen powers through this song with some well-calculated cowbell bangs. Bravo, Rick Allen! I can only imagine what kind of cowbell mastery you would have unleashed with both arms intact. Live in Denver What do you want? More dam cowbell https://youtu.be/2Ayy1GvheCY

.“Funky Town” by Lipps Inc: This song proves what I had been saying all along; there should have been more cowbell in the disco. Infectious! Disco may have died, but it wasn’t on the shoulders of Lipps Inc. They understood and harnessed the power of the cowbell to produce one of disco’s finest. In my playlist above I have the Blondie Version, it rocks with that klanker oh so good! But the original song credit does go to Lipps Inc. Talk about then take me to….it….  https://youtu.be/PqiZ_gryYUQ

13. “Orleans” by The StandstillsRocking Cowbell from this pair. Get into what you need…..must have…… and desire….Enjoy this new Number 13. https://youtu.be/bO1JUmoDroo
